A Master’s at Imperial is more accessible than our undergraduate entry requirements. We are inviting undergraduate students of Black heritage from all universities to explore their Master’s study options with us.

Black researchers and academics at Imperial

Esther Bankole

Esther Bankole is a PhD candidate at Imperial College London’s National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI). Her research explores the mechanisms of lung tissue repair and regeneration. Before her PhD, Esther studied Biomedical Science at Royal Holloway, followed by an MSc and MRes at Imperial.

Dr Calvin Tiengwe
Dr Calvin Tiengwe, a molecular parasitologist, studies iron metabolism in infectious diseases using Trypanosoma brucei to uncover pathogen adaptation. Through the SMART Livestock project, he tackles antimicrobial resistance, food security, and zoonotic threats in West Africa. As a One Health advocate, he promotes global partnerships for sustainable health.
Fadil Bidmos
Dr Fadil Bidmos, supported by UK Medical Research Council and US NIH funding, develops next-generation vaccines against bacterial pathogens. His lab employs Reverse Vaccinology 2.0 and glycoengineering to create a combined meningococcal-pneumococcal glycoconjugate vaccine, advancing efforts to combat bacterial meningitis.

Black entrepreneurship at Imperial

Imperial BE offers support for students of Black heritage at Imperial, aiming to explore opportunities across industry, academia, and entrepreneurship. Through a series of events, the initiative introduces role models and provides resources to help students develop entrepreneurial skills. Imperial BE helps students to develop their network, connecting students from the Black community within Imperial and beyond.
