A Master’s at Imperial is more accessible than our undergraduate entry requirements. We are inviting undergraduate students of Black heritage from all universities to explore their Master’s study options with us.

A Master’s degree provides specialised expertise in a chosen field, making you highly valued by employers. STEM and Business Master’s graduates can earn up to 40% more than those with non-STEM degrees. With strong demand for STEM professionals, career prospects and progression opportunities are significantly higher.

Esther Bankole is a PhD candidate at Imperial College London’s National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI). Her research explores the mechanisms of lung tissue repair and regeneration. Before her PhD, Esther studied Biomedical Science at Royal Holloway, followed by an MSc and MRes at Imperial.
Imperial College Business School is proud to be a global organisation with students from all over the world. We are offering scholarships to students from Black or mixed black backgrounds from all regions, who can demonstrate their leadership potential and want to make a positive contribution to the Imperial community.
The Black Future Leader Award is available to applicants demonstrating an outstanding track record of leadership and/or leadership potential. Self-identification of ethnicity from a Black or mixed background (including Black African or Black Caribbean and any other mixed black background) is also a requirement.
One Presidential Scholarship is available in each of the Faculties of Engineering, Imperial Business School, Medicine and Natural Sciences for offer holders of Black Heritage. This includes Aeronautics, Bioengineering, Business School, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental, Engineering, Computing, Design Engineering, Earth Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Life Sciences, Materials, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Physics
Successful applicants will receive home tuition fees and be offered Mentoring Support by the Activate programme for courses up to 4 years.
Imperial College London offers the Presidential Scholarships for Black Heritage Students, supporting UK/Home fee-status students of Black heritage pursuing eligible postgraduate taught Master’s programmes. The scholarship covers full tuition fees up to £18,500, a £21,000 annual maintenance grant, a £1,500 equipment allowance, and includes mentoring support.
Eligible applicants must identify as of Black heritage, hold Home fee status, and apply to a qualifying Master’s programme. Some courses, such as online programmes, MBAs, and certain design courses, are excluded.
Apply by 1 April 2025. Decisions will be communicated by 30 June 2025.
Imperial BE offers support for students of Black heritage at Imperial, aiming to explore opportunities across industry, academia, and entrepreneurship. Through a series of events, the initiative introduces role models and provides resources to help students develop entrepreneurial skills. Imperial BE helps students to develop their network, connecting students from the Black community within Imperial and beyond.
The Black Postdoctoral Network was established in November 2021 to support Imperial’s Black postdoctoral researchers and those professionally conducting research after the completion of their doctoral studies.
Black & Found is Imperial’s podcast dedicated to hearing the voices and experiences of Black/Black mixed heritage founders. Discover more on the entrepreneurial journeys of individuals at different stages within the Imperial Enterprise ecosystem and beyond.
The Provost’s Visiting Professors Programme was established to improve the diversity of Imperial by bringing together leading academics who will support the Black community through scholarships, teaching and programmes.
Established in 2020 to support Black postgraduate research students, the BDN is a student-run community to share joys and struggles, and to provide strong roots to navigate an environment that is often hostile to ethnic minorities.
The Outreach Black Student Advisory Board, first launched in July 2020 and was set up to engage and consult Imperial students in the work the Outreach department and Imperial are doing to increase diversity and inclusion, and in particular, to increase the number of Black heritage students at Imperial.
Imperial As One is the race equality network for postgraduate students and staff that works to support and promote an inclusive workplace culture of respect, opportunity, unity, transparency, and equality.
